• Operation down to 10 mK for dilution-refrigerator and millikelvin systems
• 30 dB insertion loss at 4 GHz with 50 Ω impedance
• Inline SMA male-to-female architecture for direct integration and signal-line thermalization

Product Overview

VST-PF-SMA3002-18G is a 50 Ω SMA male-to-female cryogenic infrared filter for millikelvin RF and microwave signal chains. The device is specified from DC–18 GHz, provides 30 dB insertion loss at 4 GHz, and supports operation down to 10 mK.

Cryogenic infrared filtering is used to attenuate unwanted high-frequency radiation and noise-photon flux propagating from warmer temperature stages toward sensitive low-temperature devices. The inline coaxial format enables direct integration into dilution-refrigerator and other cryogenic RF paths while supporting signal-line thermalization as part of the overall system architecture.

Key Engineering Features

High-Frequency Photon & Noise Suppression

Designed to reduce unwanted high-frequency radiation and noise-photon propagation toward sensitive cryogenic devices.

Millikelvin Operation Down to 10 mK

Suitable for dilution refrigerators and other millikelvin RF and microwave measurement environments.

30 dB Insertion Loss at 4 GHz

Provides a defined attenuation point at 4 GHz without implying a fixed 30 dB attenuation across the full specified range.

Inline SMA Integration & Thermalization

SMA male-to-female architecture supports direct coaxial integration and signal-line thermalization at an appropriate cryogenic stage.

Why Infrared Filtering Matters

In superconducting quantum and other millikelvin systems, stray infrared and high-frequency photons can contribute to unwanted device heating and quasiparticle excitation. Cryogenic IR filters are therefore used as part of the RF chain to reduce this high-frequency photon loading before it reaches temperature-sensitive devices.

System-level role: filter placement should be considered together with attenuation, shielding, thermalization, and the required signal band. The published 30 dB @ 4 GHz value is the specified insertion-loss point for this model.
